Dear friend,
These kids are growing up.
November began with our annual Day of the Dead Celebration! This tradition gets better and better each year. This year the kids each presented on an ancestor and took a lot of ownership over it. 
We have found our rhythm with our new extra curricular schedule and we've been having fun. Summer continues to love swimming and she is trying basketball for the first time. Rose and Joy and taking swimming lessons and Joy is loving ballet. Smith started Ninja Warrior for the first time and immediately got invited to join their competitive team, he is also part of the house swim team. Boyd is missing outdoor soccer but indoor soccer seems to be making up for it. 
These are some of my favorite quotes from the month:
Me: We don't have any weapons in the house.
Boyd: Oh, but we do. These (pointing to his biceps).
Rose leans in and secretively whispers gibberish into E's ear: "phspshpshsphspsh"
She then seriously grabs his chin, firmly looks him in the eye and instructs him: "Don't tell anyone."
Elias was putting Joy and Rose to bed one night when Joy started crying because she didn't know how she would find the right man to marry. (I mean, we could end the story right there, right? Because she's five.) But Elias was comforting her when I walked in and he asked me to tell Joy how I made the decision of whom to marry. I explained that I dated lots of different kinds of boys, and then Rose who was casually leaning on the other side of E listening in on the conversation interrupted and said, pointing to her dad, "and then you found this guy."
During one scripture study all of the following comments were made:
Boyd: The streets were paved with gold? Like legos?
Rose: I'm kissing the picture of Daddy on your phone.
Smith: If he was in the Celestial Kingdom he should've seen if people were old or babies. He should be able to tell us how old we are in heaven.
Summer: I kind of agree with Joseph's dad; it's better to join no church than the wrong church.
Rose has been enjoying a new game in which she opens all of the cupboards and drawers in the house. It's not my favorite but she makes up for it in other ways.
This year we held a Flood of Gratitude event in our driveway. We had just over 100 people attend and hope to try it again next year.
Summer's birthday fell on Thanksgiving this year, so the day before she invited a few friends over for a playdate and gift exchange. They all enjoyed Summer's favorite foods, playing in the basement and doing a paint pour.
We hosted Thanksgiving at the church for about 40 people. Luckily Kevin & Jeannie came down to help us!
Then it was back to the birthday celebrations! We love this wise, kind, inclusive, crafty, fun girl! She received a sewing machine this year and went right to work making Grandpa a hankie.
We loved spending a few days with Gram and Grandpa and of course preparing for Christmas!
We are looking forward to December.
